Photography is 200 years old! This September 2026, photography celebrates its 200th anniversary. The very first photograph, taken in 1826 by Nicéphore Niépce, required several days of exposure—no color, no movement, not a single face. Two centuries later, we capture a smile in one-hundredth of a second, but the act remains the same and the motivation hasn’t changed: to observe the world closely enough to see something worth revealing and sharing.
To mark this bicentennial in my own way, I’m sharing my vacation photos in the form of diptychs: two images linked by a color, a theme, a shape, or a texture—like an echo that you can have fun identifying.
The Unrestricted Gaze. On vacation, I take photos without a commission, without a client, without a brief to follow. Just a light that appeals to me, the desire to capture it and share it. Maybe that’s why these images end up responding to one another without me having planned it: they obey only my eye, nothing else.
Curation: choosing, sorting, letting go.... 200 yearsago , there was nothing to sort through. It took days to capture a single photo, with no way to compare or choose. Today, I come back from vacation with hundreds of images. I sort them, archive them, choose them, and only then do I discover the connections between them. Today, I’m sharing this curation with you through these images.
